Imagination

Written in: Grade 6 | Year: 2010

Imagine if the sidewalk ended, where would you go? I think you’re just imagining to give yourself a scare, but what if there was a scary monster hiding down there?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidosis, even though the sound of it is simply quite atrocious. What if you created your own word or secret language.

Whoville, Hogwarts and Neverland…these imaginary places seem almost real. Do you ever leave the theatre feeling like you are in the movie? Or read a book and imagine you are the main character. Think of being one of the Who’s, Harry Potter or Peter Pan in a world of imagination.

Imagine there was no such thing as impossible? What if you were always a winner and never a loser? What if gossip was history… no rumors and no talking behind your back? When speaking to a crowd people say to imagine everyone in their underwear…UHHHH! Imagine thousands of butterflies in your stomach flying out whenever you speak! I hope this doesn’t happen to me.

I think imagining is used to think of a perfect world or something we want. Imagination is the work which helps to create fantasy which can be expressed by fairytales, superheroes or comic characters. Imagination is the ability to form mental images in your mind and to remember, dream, create and improvise. I think everyone has this ability, even teachers! Imagination is a fundamental ability to make sense of the world. It plays a key role in our learning process, by converting things we touch, see and hear into a picture to imagine. Imagined images are seen by the “minds’ eyes”…Did you know most inventions and entertainment products were a created inspiration from someone’s imagination.
From imagination, we can express our real self because no one is demanding any expectations. Imagination is important to integrate a childs feelings, dreams or actions. It is a place where kids can experiment and feel as if they have power or are in control. It is another way to deal with intense emotions. But imagination doesn’t just help kids deal with emotions, research has shown that children with developed imagination have a greater ability to deal with stress.

As a child I would pretend I was a princess waiting for a prince to come and save me from a dragon. I’m sure most young girls imagined they were princesses or fairies too. |Most boys probably imagined they were superheroes saving the world. As a child, did you have an imaginary friend? I did! My friends’ name was Annie. She was my imaginary friend for three years and she was also my best friend. I remember she would always make me feel better when I was sad and whenever I did something bad, like stealing cookies, I would always blame it on Annie.

Let your imagination run wild! It brings laughter, possibilities and hope into your life. What would the world be like with no war, no cancer and no poverty. In the words of the Beatles – “imagine all the people sharing all the world … you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one … I hope someday you will join us and the world will live as one!” Imagine …..
