Close your eyes and imagine that you are at the most beautiful fur store in the world and you are waiting in line to buy this beautiful fur jacket. You are waiting to go to the next available employee and you turn to the right and you find that there is a box on a rack and it is full with books on fur. You decided to pick one up and start to read it. It stars that chapter by saying: “What is the fur trade?”
The aboriginals traded fur with the French and the British to get objects or utensils made of steel! When the aboriginals would get visits from the French or the British, they would make them fur hats and coats to pay them for the guns and the cutlery they were given. They could not pay with real money like the French or the British because they did not have money.
But that was a long time ago. What is fur trade today? Fur comes from many different places like Canada, Russia, and the U.S. Most fur comes from Asia. Throughout the world, there are many farms raise and breed animals to kill and skin for fur.
The second way to get fur is when trappers catch them in the wild. Some of the big animals caught are raccoons and leopards. But no matter what, you have to kill animals to get fur.
They capture the animals using various net trap and cages. Some of the common traps used are Leg-hold traps and common rope trap. Both of these traps are efficient, useful and get the job done. Another way that some countries kill the animal without damaging the fur is by drowning it. This method is usually used on minks, beavers and muskrats. The padded trap, laminated trap and offset trap are used on animals such as the bobcat, lynx, wolf, coyote, fox, beavers, muskrat, minks and otters.
According to the global Action Network, Canada use of the Leg-Hold trap the most simple but crazy device has been banned in 63 countries, as well as in Florida, Rhode Island New Jersey, and Arizona. When any kind of animals step foot into the Leg-hold trap spring, the trap’s jaws slam on the animal’s limb.
Have you ever seen a video about how people use animals to make fur? Well I have. In an Asian town, what they do to those animals is something horrible. They take any kind of animals they have and throw them on the ground, kick them, step on them, and even rip their bodies apart while they are still alive suffering in the cold and through this tragedy.
Because of this kind of animal cruelty and abuse, many animals are endangered such as the Koala bear and polar bear. There were only a few of these animals and men hunted them down for their fur just so people can have a coat or hat or a collar on their jacket. If people keep hunting animals and keep killing them just for their fur, all animals will be gone! Having animals on our planet, being able to see god’s creations and watch animals grow up and their cycle of life is a gift. By killing animals just for their fur, it is destroying the whole purpose of them being here and the whole purpose of god placing them here, not to kill but admire.
“Mam, mam” said the sales lady” Your next.” You think in your head for a moment and you remember all of that information you have read about this horrible stuff they do to the animals. You drop your stuff and run out of that store. You are very happy that you did not buy that coat just because it is pretty and warm. So the next time you even think about touching or smelling a fur jacket just keep these horrible pictures and information inside your head! And you will know to step back and buy a new pair of nice shoes!
