Clothes, music, Celebes and more,
Tests, projects, homework galore!
Oh, and something called “mood swings?” “STOP TALKING!”
Good morning/afternoon Mrs. K and fellow classmates. Today I will take you through a day in the life of a 13 year old girl.
I slowly woke up, to a bright Friday morning. I ran downstairs to get some cereal and to read my favorite magazines. I read all about the gossip of Jamie Lynn Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan. They might have fun partying with their friends, but look at the results afterwards. Does drinking have to be involved to have a good time? And if so, are they having fun in jail? I don’t think so! I tend to look at the good role models that we girls can look up to such as Miley Cyrus, Aly and Aj, Emily Osment, and Selena Gomez. They might not be mentioned in the etalk scandal, but it is better to have a story in a magazine about the charities celebrities support instead of being known for letting your 5 month old sit on your lap while driving.
In magazines, we see all the high fashion brands like Chanel. In real life, 13 year old girls may want to own a designer purse, but can’t afford it. The average weekly allowance of 13 year old girls is $9.10, so stores such as Target, Aeropostale, Garage, and Bluenotes have affordable prices, and styles that 13 year olds like.
After I find a comfy and affordable outfit, its time to do my hair! Personally, I don’t spend much time at all in the morning doing my hair. I spend less than 5 minutes (obviously excluding my shower) and so do 42% of 13 year old girls! Overall, 43% of 13 year old girls take about 10-20 minutes doing their hair while 8% take about 30-45 minutes! How long does it take for the other 7%? Well, each morning they spend at least an hour or more doing their hair. Its not like we are walking the red carpet, we are walking down the school hallways! Does it take them an hour to brush their teeth, wash their face, or make their bed too?
Once I am ready, I head off to school. I may not be wearing expensive shoes, sweater or a t-shirt, but my friends still like my style. They deal with me, if I get too moody- which never happens. “HEY! I AM TALKING HERE!” Another part of school other than recess is the actual learning part. Math, science, gym, reading and writing, music, history and social studies are the main subjects we learn everyday. They might be easy or difficult, depending on your likes or dislikes. Out of all 13 year old girls 27% prefer gym, 19% enjoy reading and writing, 16% prefer math, and 17% like music, 11% prefer science and 10% are more interested in history and social studies. It’s real easy to go through a day of hard work, but only if there is recess!
Recess! Finally, a time to relax and play. Sports such as soccer, basketball, and football are the most enjoyed sports for 13 year old girls during recess. If we have a test, all of the girls bring out their text books or study sheets to quiz each other. It might not be the best recess activity, but it still can be fun.
Speaking about tests, the older you get, they get bigger and much more difficult. Obviously, the older you get the more work you get. You may also have more homework because you will have a variety of teachers and they don’t know what your other teachers gave you to do that night- sometimes you end up with 5-6 hours of homework per night!
Overall, clothes and celebrities have a huge effect over how we act and how we dress. I told you about mood swings- which you agree, never happen to me. (“QUIET!”) You also know how homework affects us depending on how much we get. But still after doing all my research, I still have one question for Mrs. K. Is life the same way as it used to be, way back when you were a 13 year old girl?
Thank You.
